New Information and Use of Blog

I have been diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma affecting both lungs .I am in the middle of learning about possible treatments to slow things down and reduce symptoms in the future.
This was discovered as an incidental finding about 5 weeks ago.
I have no symptoms at present other than managing my emotions and getting my affairs in order.
I am sharing this with you on the blog and ask that we use this as a safe manageable platform to process this together without me being overwhelmed as I am learning to navigate this news.
I will read all posts and respond as well and promptly as I can. Please be patient.
Excited to play in public again after 3 pandemic years and looking forward to connecting as we share this part of our lives. (https://www.regattabarjazz.com/event/stanley-sagov-quintet-december-16-2023/)

Stan, stunned and saddened to hear this. I think many of us have reached the ages we are, in the good condition we are in, thanks to your years of care and attention. If there is anything, practical, supportive, whatever, I can do, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re thinking of, and pulling for, you.

      Stan,
I am saddened to hear of your recent diagnosis. I remember first going to your office practice in 2003 hard to believe 20 yrs went quick as Dr Zucker is my general practitioner. You have such talent and opened up a wonderful medical office for the town of Arlington.
Enjoy your holidays and may peace be with you and your family.

Wishing the best for you and your family. You’ve meant a lot to me over the years of your first being my PCP and then just seeing around the office at FPG. Sending love and support. Don’t know what else to say. I’m kind of in shock. Thank you for keeping us in the loop.

NOT FAIR! Symptom free, so go for it!!! Sending you love, prayers, telepathic healing chants and more.
I do believe in the placebo faith to heal. Midst all the world of possibilities, you will prevail.

  9. Patti Herrington on November 15, 2023 at 10:38 am

Stanley, I am stunned, scared, and saddened. When I first moved to Massachusetts, you were in your one-man office on Mass Ave and I was lucky enough to find you. You and FPG have been in my life now for forty years and cared for my sons since their births thirty some years ago. When my son Josey took his life, FPG held me together. At Brookline High School, i taught both of your wonderful daughters. As you live these precious days, please know how loved and appreciated you are.

  30. Lenny Solomon on November 16, 2023 at 9:52 am

Hi Stanley. I don’t know about using public blogs for private matters but since you opened the door, I’ll walk over the threshold. It’s been a long road since I first met you when you stared out in Cambridge. You’ve always counseled me well through these years even when initially I might have questioned your advice. You once told me that when people have to confront adversity, some fall apart while others gain strength dealing with their new, and perhaps unexpected challenges. I know where you fall.

I’ve always loved your music and always enjoyed listening to it, even though it wasn’t my genre (does that phrase sound familiar?). I won’t be in Cambridge for your show but I’d be there if I could. I have a poster on my wall that says “You don’t stop playing when you get old, you get old when you stop playing.” It gives me strength when I get frustrated and think about hanging it up. It reminds me to keep on truckin’ and to even better enjoy and appreciate what music has given me. It reminds me that it helped get me through all the various traumas life threw in my path. Keep playing Stan. I’m thinking of you.

    • Stanley Sagov on November 22, 2023 at 1:01 pm

  38. Judy Luce on November 16, 2023 at 3:41 pm

Dear, dear Stanley, I am sad for you — this disruption in the path you were on in retirement, the many joys in your life and the creative impulse and energy that greeted you each day as music poured out of you becoming a generous gift to the world. I think of our conversation when we visited in September and the poems we shared, more poignant now and hopefully a small source of light on this journey. I’ve always felt that your music did what good poetry does — opens doors, minds, hearts and spirits, takes us to a place beyond reason, to a whole new consciousness….I wish you peace and a felt hope each day as you find your way on this new journey. Know you are not alone. I send love and blessing, blessing in the celtic roots part of my family, a circle of protection and care. I hold you and Elivia and your family in my heart and in my thoughts. I light a candle each night and hope you can feel its light and warmth. So grateful for your place in my life. Judy (I am trying to come east for your show).

    • Elivia Savadier Sagov on November 16, 2023 at 9:26 pm

I remember in 2006, when I had my second gut surgery. You just showed up in the changing room, at about 7 AM! You said you wanted to check out who was doing anesthesia. And indeed you did go and check and said I was in good hands. But I was already in good hands because I believe you came for the hug and the reassurance that I would be alive. I will show up for you in any way you want.
    Love, Stuart

  53. Ken Brociner on November 17, 2023 at 9:58 pm

    Stanley

I’ve been putting off writing to you since I learned of this dreadful news immediately after our email exchange this morning

Sitting down, fully processing this, and then trying to say something meaningful and appropriate feels very daunting. Each and every one of the previous posts/messages have expressed such beautiful and caring emotions that I don’t quite know what I can say that hasn’t already been said.

But I’ll try. When I broke the news to Raysa she was SO stunned and saddened. We haven’t spoken to Marcelo in a few days – he’s in grad school in London – but we’ll be speaking to him over the weekend and, of course, will let him know about this. You are the ONLY doctor he’s had on a regular basis in all of his 27 years and he will be deeply upset by this news.

As for myself and Raysa, you have been there -really “been there” for both of us and our son (Marcelo), whenever we needed a routine checkup, or an appointment about something more serious. And always with your wonderful sense of humor, incredible medical knowledge and expertise, and for me – always there to engage in an interesting political discussion. Your perspectives and values have always enlightened me and they were often ones that I wasn’t getting from reading the daily papers or any of the other materials I read on a regular basis.

I know you’ll make sure to get the very best treatment there is, and so I assume – and fervently hope – you’ll be around for quite some time. This crazy world so needs people like you, Stanley. Please take care.

    Lots of love,
    Ken, Raysa, and Marcelo

  55. Betsy Shor on November 18, 2023 at 3:58 pm

Stan you are the warmest, kindest bundle of love and good energy. I owe SOOO much to the legacy of your practice and your life. Family Practice Group has provided me a rare pearl of a place to practice medicine in a way that feels authentic and personal, and some of my most kindred friendships have come from my relationships there. I am forever grateful for the tone you set, your bold attitudes, the courageous way you have lived your life and what a inspiringly kindred man you are to me and so many. I think this cancer is going to meet it’s match in you! Rooting for you to kick cancer’s ass and sending you all my strongest care and love.

    • Stanley Sagov on November 19, 2023 at 6:54 am

thanks for your warmth ..I am not a committed “Ass kicker against this cancer ” and am more aspiring to live well and return the love and support you and others are giving me. I want to live in a peaceful , loving way while of course choosing therapeutic options that make sense to my quality of life on this stage of the journey we are all on. Keep on enjoying our connection Betsy and if that’s called fighting the cancer as well..I am on board.

  56. Archie Brodsky on November 19, 2023 at 12:19 am

Stanley, I’m stunned and saddened to have the exciting news of your upcoming concert followed so soon by news like this. I take comfort from knowing that no one is better prepared than you to be an “active patient” co-managing your care. I know you will give yourself the same superlative care you’ve given others.

The appreciation, admiration, and love that so many have expressed speak to the breadth and depth of your contribution to our lives. Over the years you’ve been one of the people I’ve listened to most closely and carefully, knowing how much I can learn from you, and parts of our conversations come back to me as if we were having them now. All the work and play we’ve shared are fondly embedded in my memories and my heart.

I’m here if there is any way I can help and support you as you meet this challenge. Meanwhile, I’m delighted that you’ve added a late show so that more of us can come out to see and hear you. Someone once observed that your late shows are especially intimate and free-flowing. Vicki and I will be there!

    Archie

    Stanley,
Having just returned from Palo Alto, and reading my email for the first time in a week, this news is just a little disorienting. I am stunned, shocked, saddened by the news, yet hopeful that you will get through this stage and have many more years of pursuing those things that make you happiest. While I am unable to attend your concert on the 16th, I do hope to see you in the near future. Our thoughts and hopes are with you and your family. Let us know if there’s anything we can do.

Thanks for warm expression John.. I am in the midst of testing and weighing options towards that goal too.

  60. Daniel Pensak on November 19, 2023 at 4:10 pm

    Dear Stanley,

Alex let me know this news. I send you all my love, prayers and tears. We became part of each other’s families in some of my earliest formative years, and I still feel very deeply connected that way. I hope we get to zoom again or maybe even visit. Thank you so much for reaching out. It means a lot to me.

    Love,

    Daniel

    • Stanley Sagov on November 22, 2023 at 12:47 pm

we will reconnect soon by zoom after I get a few more tests done etc etc

    Hi Stanley,

I am just reading about this news and wondering what has transpired since you first posted it. I hope you are on a path that feels right. You are in my heart. See you at the Regatta Bar. Pam

  62. Pam on November 19, 2023 at 5:48 pm

    Hi again Stanley,

For some reason I have been thinking it’s already December. Now that I am oriented to November , I realize my last message didn’t really make sense. Except for the part about you being in my heart and seeing you soon in Harvard Square.

  63. Marjy Fiddler on November 19, 2023 at 6:48 pm

Oh my goodness, Stanley! It must mean something that I heard this news from Daniel who heard it from Alex. This intentional family thing is such a joyous one- perhaps an inappropriate word for news of this magnitude, but an expression of clarity and connection and mutual love and respect. As plans are being made, I hope a visit from Daniel and I might enhance the quality of both our families!

  64. Katie Gray on November 20, 2023 at 10:41 am

It continues to be an honor to work at The Sagov Center for Family Medicine (aka Family Practice Group) and your presence is felt there every day.

    • Stanley Sagov on November 21, 2023 at 2:09 pm

I love you Katy and it continues to be our honor to savor what we did all of our time together. We made it matter to us and to the mission to serve others. You inspired me and helped me so much .

Wishing you joy, connection, and peace in this time of your life.

I was so sorry to read these news, Dr. Sagov. I tell my friends stories of your medical advice and your comments about medicine and life and your dual career as a musician and physician frequently, and I am sure I will for the rest of my life. Looking forward to hearing and seeing you on December 16 in Cambridge!

  81. Catheline on November 25, 2023 at 11:56 am

    Dear Dr. Sagov,

As many of your former patients, I have just read the news you were generous enough to share with us. Community is such an important part of facing this terrible challenge. I want to thank you for being such a kind, caring, and absolutely hilarious human and wonderful doctor to me the few times I needed care. I hope you do find solace in knowing you have deeply touched so many around you beyond your friends and family, not only as a doctor but also through your fabulous musical talent. I send you my very best jazzy and healing vibes and my fervent prayers for your well-being.

  82. Maggie on November 25, 2023 at 11:57 am

    Hi Dr. Sagov,

Although our family members did not have you as a doctor, we admired your many talents and your commitment growing and sustaining the practice. We are thinking of you and your family at this time, and hope that you will continue to play music and bring joy and wisdom to people’s lives.

    Take are,
    Clifton and Maggie

  83. Kostia Bergman on November 25, 2023 at 12:37 pm

    Dear, dear Stanley,

What ironic news given the amount of time that you spent searching for melanoma on my skin! And the many procedures you did as part of my ‘incremental weight loss program!” Yes – your wonderful sense of humor and deep concern made yearly visits and periodic additional skin-checks with you such a pleasure. I have been so thankful for the support of all at FPG – where I always feel like a co-participant in my health care.

I hope you will benefit from the new immuno-therapies and continue to find meaning in the time remaining.

    Kostia

  84. David Clark on November 25, 2023 at 12:57 pm

    Dear Stanley –

What monumental news. I wish you the best as you process this and seek the healing and sustenance which you have offered so countless many for so many years. I am so grateful to you for both music and medicine. I want to tell you that after what possibly may have been a slightest turbulence as the practice found its footing upon your departure, it seemed to have quickly stabilized and I feel it is providing solid, warm, attentive care from the moment the phone is answered through telehealth and in person appointments, follow-up etc. Your spirit and values is and are alive at the Sagov Center for Family Medicine. I hope that is a comfort to you. Play on, Dear Brother!

    David

I am so stunned and saddened by the news of your cancer. I hope that the support of all of your family, friends, former patients, etc… will give you courage in your fight vs. this demon within your body. Knowing you has changed my life, as I hope you know. I am very grateful for all the emotional support and physical care you gave me since your days at your practice in Cambridge. My thoughts and prayers will be ongoing from this day forth for the power of the earth and sky, nature and spirit to surround you and comfort you during this difficult time, to give you strength, raise you up and give you a calm within. We are so sorry to hear this heartbreaking news. You have always been a pillar of strength, compassion and creativity in our Eitz Chayim community, the music world and your recent support for me and my recently published book was a shot in the arm I needed just then. (I wonder where that shot in the arm phrase framed so positively comes from). We plan to attend your concert and are sending you love and healing. Judy and Sam

  95. David Luberoff on November 26, 2023 at 1:31 pm

    Stan
I too was stunned and saddened to read your note. You have been a wise source of strength from the time I first met you in that group house in Medford (later Newton), through the important support you provided when our beloved Neil died; to the extraordinary medical (and non-medical) care you have for me, for Jody, and for both Anna and Becca. You have been a friend, a mentor, a wise guide, and, of course, a terrific doctor. Our thoughts and prayers and love are with you.

  96. David Miller on November 26, 2023 at 2:22 pm

    Dr Sagov,
You have always been Dr Sagov to me, a wonderful doctor. When you left the practice I didn’t feel I had a chance to thank you for the 40 years of so of care you gave me. You really listened and provided direction to the myriad of little problems that came my way. I hope you get a physician that hears and guides you through your melanoma that is a great as you are. All the very best to you!! I miss you and your jokes.

    • Stanley Sagov on November 26, 2023 at 5:44 pm

thanks and glad at least one person misses my Jokes

  97. Judy Smith on November 26, 2023 at 4:07 pm

Stanley, I am so sad to hear your medical news, but glad to have the chance to write to you.
I remember what you told me a long time ago in 1995; you said as we age, our job is to somehow separate ourselves and our sense of dignity and self worth from our (increasingly) imperfect bodies; to not think that a problem with the body means the end of the self. I have tried to hold onto this insight, to struggle to integrate it. Stanley, we cherish the care you have given to us, from home births on, and we cherish the experiences we have shared with you, in health care, at demonstrations, in solidarity work, and in listening to your music, and your making music with your beloved musical co-conspiriters. We hope that as you find the path ahead, music and beloved relationships and the wisdom you have shared with so many of us will help along the way. I hadn’t gotten the notice of the Dec 16 concert before the FPG email, but we will be there on Dec 16.

    • Stanley Sagov on November 26, 2023 at 5:44 pm

I remember the old photo: you with your beard and glasses. I haven’t seen it in a long time but it brings back the early memories of Cambridge in the 1970’s. You were there for the first breath of both my children; Kaitlyn and Jesse. I cannot think of you not being here now. So all of us are channeling the love you gave us all these decades back to you so that you may heal, Hashem willing. Bless you and Keep you. Jeffrey and Ramelle

  101. Libby Bradshaw on November 26, 2023 at 8:48 pm

    Dear, dear Stanley,
I just tuned into your email/blog and feel sad to hear this sobering news. Your ability to articulate and live your vision of family medicine in the Boston area have always made you a force of nature and inspiration. I appreciate all that you have given to the profession, your wisdom, and for your joie de vivre. May you and your care team find all the resources and therpeutic agents to keep you active and whole in good spirits and able to enjoy this time. My father died of melanoma, shortly before these newer agents became available. Even then, he had significant time and the strength to live his life. May this new knowledge of your own mortality allow you additional gusto, and the sweetness of savoring love and the spice of life. With great resepect and admiration, Libby

    Dear Cousin,

I am so sorry to hear this, and I am sorry to have been out of touch the past few months. You are a true spiritual adviser–and intellectual adviser and ethical adviser. To be out of touch is evidence of stumbling in all of these realms. If you’re up for talking in the future, I’m free every Friday morning at 7:30 a.m.

    And any other time, too.

You’re voice is strong within me.

    Love,
    Michael

  103. Glaudine on November 27, 2023 at 10:23 am

Stan, stunned is an understatement. I saw you barely a week before that incidental finding. You were in a physically euphoric state, single- handedly rendering a concert composed on your multiple studio instruments. What a joy to hear newly created music flowing from a deep seated source!
You and Elivia welcomed my family to Boston in the mid-1980s. Thank you for that. I’ll always remember your commitment to healthcare improvement and our efforts on CHISA (Committee for Health in South Africa) long before democracy abolished apartheid.

Your grace and purpose-focused existence are written on the colorful canvas of your life.
Live, love, & enjoy making music as long as you have breath keeping the march of time in check. Fondest regards and best wishes.
    Glaudine

    Dear Stanley,

I could always count on you to give such stellar care and validate any concerns I had in my head about what would be going on when I would see you. You had such a matter-of-fact attitude for the minor issues I had over the years… And I was always right on target with what you would predict for recovery. You took an interest in my life beyond the ailment and shared your pursuits. It was an amazing god-send to have you as my physician for all these decades. Your gentle joyous soul continues to be an inspiration to me.

    Much Love, Gayle

Dearest Stanley, I am both shocked and saddened to learn of your recent health news, as you have been an outstandingly significant person in my life. I have both enjoyed and profited by your intelligence, your humility, your emotional availability, and your relational presence. These lovely qualities of yours have informed my own presence in both my personal relations, as well as my professional work with others.
Sadly, I waited too long to purchase my tickets for your upcoming 7:30 performance and just learned that they are sold out.
    Holding you in my heart

  109. Devon Davidson on November 28, 2023 at 3:01 pm

    Dear Stanley,

I first met you at Lena Entin’s home birth. You were the very rare doctor who would do a home birth in the mid-1970s. It didn’t take Mark and me long to decide to come to FPG ourselves! Not only did you give our family outstanding health care, you opened my eyes to a much more participatory kind of health care. I have felt very privileged to be a patient at FPG, with Dr. Zucker carrying on the care you gave us. How poignant that you are facing melanoma after having seen Mark through his years with it. I am so very sorry to hear your news. I hope you will remain symptom-free as long as possible. I wish you wisdom as you balance treatment side effects vs length and quality of life. May music and poetry and all the love that surrounds you sustain and support you on this journey.

    With love and gratitude,
    Devon

  110. Larry Blum on November 28, 2023 at 3:22 pm

Stanley, So sorry and sad about your medical development and its challenges. I hope and assume you have the best care possible, and that, as you say, you can live the rest of your life “in a peaceful, loving way.” Your indomitable spirit and love of life should help you on that path.
You have given so much to so many. I think you took care of me (and Judy) for about 45 years. Your care was wonderful and I am so grateful and blessed for it. Your way of caring for the whole person, body, mind and spirit, was exemplary. I so enjoyed our wide-ranging conversations about morals, medicine, politics, South Africa, and many other things. It was all part of your caring approach, your seeing me, your diagnostic genius.
    You are in my heart.

So far I still have my wits about me and getting wise kind advice and care as I am gathering information and making choices..Your love and support are really welcome

  112. Devon Davidson on November 28, 2023 at 8:12 pm

    Dear Stanley,

I first met you when you I witnessed you deliver Lena Entin at home. Not many doctors (any besides you and Richard?) would do home births in the mid-1970s! It wasn’t long before Mark and I decided to come to FPG. You have given our family such outstanding care over all these years and introduced me to a much more participatory approach to my health care. I feel so privileged to have been cared for by you and now Dr. Zucker and the other staff of FPG.

It is poignant that you cared for Mark as he lived with melanoma for almost 5 years. I wish you wisdom as you balance the benefits and side effects of treatment against longevity and quality of life. May music and poetry and all the love that surrounds you support you on this journey.

    With love and gratitude,
    Devon

I too remember so many important connections with you and your family..Thank you for your good wishes and reminding me what mattered so much to us

  113. Dick Lown on November 29, 2023 at 11:29 am

Dear Stan, even a week after seeing the news about your bout with melanoma, I am in disbelief. You are such a force of nature that it does not seem possible for this to occur with you. You have treated me from my 30’s to my 70’s and helped me weather whatever health issues I have faced with honesty, humor, and sternness-when needed-but always with such humanity. You helped create at FPG a place where I felt I would receive compassionate care, and one that I always returned to each time I came back to Boston. I will be there at the RegattaBar on Dec 16,
    Dick Lown

    Dear Stanley,
My heart is breaking for you and your family. You have meant so much to me and my family over the years as you so generously offered us your compassion, humor, wisdom, poetry, and unmatched medical expertise. I miss you often and am so sad to hear about your diagnosis. This was to be your time to make music, enjoy your family, and experience the peace and contentment that you so deserve. I wish for you to receive the same expert and heartfelt caring and wisdom and love during this difficult time that you selflessly gave to others. My heart is with you.
    Love,
    Nancy Love

PS. Sorry I’m going to be out of town for your concert. Otherwise, I would be there.

  115. Vicky Anderson on November 29, 2023 at 5:33 pm

Dear Stan. You were recommended to me by the Boston Women’s Health Book Collective in 1980 as the best family practice physician in the area. They were not wrong. You helped to deliver two of my three children. My oldest child, Shondra, was born in Colorado where the care paled in comparison to the care my other two children, Jessie and Dylan, received in Massachusetts with you. Jessie was born at home in Cambridge under the care of you and midwife, Judy Luce. You played a brilliant song on our piano immediately after she was born to welcome her into the world. That was such a wonderful gift! Two years later, you helped to deliver Dylan at Mount Auburn Hospital, as home births were no longer an option in our state. You provided health care for all three of my children until their adulthood and eventual move out of state. And, because of you, Family Practice Group has been my continuous health care provider since 1980. You truly have shown what a life with meaning looks like. You have positively impacted the lives of so many, built an exceptional medical practice that simply cannot be replaced, and been a most authentic caring physician. For that, I am eternally grateful. Thanks for your amazing dedication, steady years of service, and beautiful inspirational music, literal and otherwise. With love and respect, Vicky Anderson : )

Dearest Dr. Stanley, I am sure you will handle this diagnosis with the grace, humor and intelligence you have applied to so many patients’ situations. I still remember fondly my long labor with daughter Jessica and you working on the NYT cross-word puzzle. You quipped – the baby better come out before I finish the puzzle. It still makes me smile. Much love, Connie

Dr. Sagov I was a medical student in your office about 20 years ago. I wanted to say how sorry I was to hear this news. I learned so much from you, I appreciate all that you taught me. I also love your music and your example of someone who does so much, so well. I, myself, was treated for cancer a few years ago and it is a hard thing to go through. I am wishing you all the best. Thank you again for all that you taught me and my fellow students.

    Stan,
It has taken me awhile to absorb your stunning news. How could this be? This doctor/this man who I met 45 years ago when I was pregnant with my first child. You who supported my desire to have a home birth and deeply understood my hopes, values, visions. We had a real relationship where we influenced each other’s thinking. We were open and listened and shared. I have enormous gratitude for your caring for me and my baby daughter when she contracted meningitis. You saw us every day until it became clear that she had this dangerous infection. And then you kept the connection when she was in the hospital. Thank you for inviting this group to be there now for you. I cherish you and am part of the large community that will hold you with love and hope as you face this challenge. Beverly

You’ve provided so many teaching moments for me in the consultation rooms of FPG. So why am I not surprised that your illness has become a teaching moment of its own, but on a broader scale?

Over the years, so many have found their way to you, Stan, from both inside and outside the health professions. Their numbers keep growing; so will their offspring. I see what it means to have a life well lived. And now I realize that its boundaries are permeable. Thank you.

    Dear Stan,
    AMANDLA!
As someone who has had several close calls, a couple of which you played an important role in my survival, I feel just as helpless as everyone else, but if a donor lung is in the matrix of treatments, let us help heal you. Just tell us where to sign-up to be tested for a match. Of course non-smokers preferred!
I sense that you are not wasting your time of life worrying about time of death. That is good for all of us. You continue to make such a difference to so many people, whatever happens you will always be in our hearts.

I wish you whatever you need most — courage and the courage to sometimes weaken, comfort, joy in the love that surrounds you, and space for sorrow. Being your patient was a wonderful experience — I actually enjoyed my visits, knowing I would learn something interesting, have a stimulating conversation about conditions and treatments, and, of course, hear a few jokes. You truly embodied the root sense of doctor: doceō, to teach. And your unconventionally personal style of medical care was inspiring: how many doctors would prescribe a book to treat a condition? “The Noonday Demon” helped to change my life. And I will never forget you reciting “This Be the Verse” in its entirety. I count myself extremely fortunate to have known you and listened to *all* your voices.

    An especially warm hug,
    Nancy

Dear Stan… I was stunned to hear the news of your illness, and I hope you will be able to move comfortably through whatever process you need to deal with it… I remember you from the 1980s, when we were both family physicians, working hard to establish that profession… you have always been a dynamic, resourceful guy… a twinkle in your eye… eager to help, interested in all facets of the doctor-patient encounter, an excellent teacher, and a dedicated physician… I’m in awe of your energy… and I admire how you’ve been able to continue your musical practice at the same time as your medical one… for sure, there’s a balance there, which helps keep you sane… All my best wishes and remembrances, and hopes for an easy course…

I would always smile when I walked past the YMCA swim certificate hanging next to the medical diplomas on the wall at FPG. And the photo of you with a coffee cup that read, “trust me,I’m a doctor” next to your face, bandaged and smiling.I tell my friends, “come to FPG, we get eye contact! Compassion! Humor!”Now, with a tough diagnosis you still remind us to find the joy. We should all write our song everyday. See you at the Regatta Bar, dear Doctor, Nancy and Tom Pendergast

I wanted to let you know that I tried to come to your show. I didn’t know that it was necessary to purchase tickets in advance and by the time I figured that out both shows had sold out. I called the hotel and the person that I spoke with told me that once the tickets were gone that was it; that you couldn’t purchase tickets at the door. I hope that I will have another opportunity to see you. I hope that you’re well and I wish you and your family a very happy holiday season! Fondly, Peggy

LEE BRAUFMAN ASKS FOR A MOMENT OF YOUR TIME

Many years ago I developed a somewhat off beat relationship with food that haunts me to this very day

Some of natures offerings are special in a sense they contain magic powers they are nutrient dense to the max and work wonders when unleashed in the body

My knowledge came from Joel Fuhrman MD

I decided to share some of this with you Because in my personal experience what he suggested always proved extremely effective

Brad’s dad played tennis every day at 90 though a patient at Sloan Kettering

I understand you are no stranger to natural foods I decided to pass on what he considers “special” because you may not be aware of that refinement and under the circumstances it could prove beneficial

He promotes certain mushrooms (he refers to exotic mushrooms) he sells a package of Forest Mushroom Blend additionally

onions cruciferous vegetables (listed on line) and berries command a front row

greens nuts seeds avocados beans whole grains are the basic

I buy some juices (carrot pomegranate ) and flood my body with bok choy juice which I make on my Omega juicer

Fuhrman is often on PBS promoting what he calls his G BOMBS DIET

He has penned several books Eat To Live might appeal I just watched one of his videos explaining the chemistry of how a particular food fights cancer

There is not too much of quality out there when it comes to what we should eat french fries cheese burgers Haagen Daz don’t make the cut Julia Child’s addiction to butter was never questioned

I thought perhaps you might find something of interest in my message

GOOD LUCK You know where to find me

Hi Stanley. I have been thinking of you often lately. It was back in 1991 that I became a patient at FPG with you as my doc and I have been grateful ever since. My son is there now and in great care with the Team you have built over the decades. Your kindness, knowledge and wisdom have been a source of strength to me over the years. You also crossed paths with my wife’s family in Brookline, writing political support post cards, as well as with a dear friend of mine who is a percussionist. That your social network is so large is a testament to your spirit. May you continue to shine bright. With love and gratitude, Adam.

    Dear Stanley,
It’s been several months since your announcement, and I’m glad to have found your message in my semi-annual visit to facebook, while saddened by the news. Add my prayers, warm memories, gratitude, love, and care to the others in this chain. May you find peace in the turmoil and faith in the uncertainty as you navigate this new phase of life. May there be satisfaction knowing you’ve touched so many lives, and lived your dreams with passion and integrity. I’m glad to have been your friend in this life, and send a big virtual hug.

  143. ken brociner on April 10, 2024 at 1:43 am

    Dear Stanley

I was thinking of you yesterday wondering what words of wisdom you might have about the solar eclipse.
I just scrolled through the messages that were left for you in March and saw that one I left was never posted. I don’t know what happened and I can’t imagine that I never hit the send button…but given how tech challenged I am, I suppose it’s possible I did leave out that one “small detail” or maybe I didn’t fill in the Name (required) box. But this time I’ll be sure to do both.

Naturally Raysa and I watched the clip of your most recent TV interview and we were so moved by it. As the younger generation would put it…you are one impressive dude in every imaginable way!

You were our doctor for such a long time. And it was always comforting to know that if need be, you would be there as one of our main pillars of emotional and medical support. And your legacy and leadership at Family Practice Group was such that even after you retired we knew that we would be in good hands no matter who we might make an appointment with. But to say that you are irreplaceable is one of the all-time understatements!

We so hope that your treatment continues to go well and that you’ll confound all of the experts and be around for a VERY long time. This world and all the people whose lives you have so deeply touched really need – and love you, Stanley.

    Ken, Raysa, and Marcelo

I thought you would like to know that Eric has been offered a home at a residential house in Belmont, very close to where we are. Since we are now 74 and 77, we are thrilled to have his future more secured. I want to thank you for your stewardship of Eric’s healthcare. Together we brought him to age 41 with only a mild case of hypertension. This is truly a family practice.
